Coast Guard blocks LNG plan again

FALL RIVER, Massachusetts (WPRI) – Coast Guard of the United States has blocked once more plans for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Fall River.

Friday, the Coast Guard has denied an appeal by energy Cove of the Weaver, confirming previous decisions handed down in 2007 and 2008.

The project attracted the strong opposition of neighbours and politicians, who say the LNG from local waters would constitute a serious risk to the public.

A Cove spokesperson said Weaver decision Friday energy will not stop society to move forward with the project.

Any delegation of Rhode Island Congress issued a statement common Friday to pay tribute to the decision of the coast guard.

Coast Guard blocks again laid down in the mass. LNG project

The Coast Guard has raised another setback for a liquefied natural gas terminal project.

The project proposed by Cove Energy LLC of Weaver drew an opposition of residents and officials, in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, who say that it poses risk unacceptable. transporting LNG Navires-citernes would have to pass through the Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island.

In a recent letter to Cove CEO Gordon Shearer Weaver, Deputy of Coast Guard commandant for operations of Brian Salerno, wrote that the waterway “is inappropriate for the type, size and frequency of maritime LNG, associated with the Cove of the Weaver proposal”.

A company spokesperson said that the last action by the Coast Guard does not prevent to try to move forward with the project.

Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed, Massachusetts Reps.Barney Frank and James McGovern called the letter a victory for the safety of the public.

Judge at the right side of voting blocks challenge

A federal judge of Rhode Island has blocked a challenge to stop the right part of voting.

U.S. District Judge William Smith Wednesday rejected an offer to declare unconstitutional the option part right, allowing voters select candidates from the same party by making a single mark on the ballot.

Robert Healey, an independent candidate for Governor, had called a party right voting unconstitutional and argued that it confused électeurs.Il wanted the option removed the ballot.

But, after hours hearing testimony, the judge ruled that Healey had failed in a case and dismissed his challenge.
