Human remains hospitalized with EEA

A Rhode Island man who contracted equine encephalitis, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Rhode Island Health Ministry said the man, who is in the County of Newport, first started showing symptoms on 5 August.

Health, officials said that the man was likely to bits by a mosquito infected in Massachusetts South East, a region identified as a high risk to the insect borne virus.

The last human case in Rhode Island was in 1998.

EEA is usually spread to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito .it ‘ is a serious disease in all ages and can same cause death in some cases.
