Seven men accused of unemployment fraud

Seven Rhode Island men were arrested and charged with fraudulently collecting unemployment benefits.


They were arrested Wednesday: Wally a. Mazzulla, 34, of Johnston; Richard j. Mahoney, 54, Coventry; Marc C. St. Germain, 40, Woonsocket; William g. Clark, 43, Saunderstown; Joseph j. Laroche, 30, of Providence; David a. Dileonardo, 33, of Cranston; and Domenic j. Milazzo, 59, Smithfield.


The men were charged with obtaining money under false pretences of $500, which is a felony.  State police said that the benefits of men collected a total of approximately $85,000.


Police of the State and State employment and training Department said that the arrests were part of a constant effort to suppress the people who receive unemployment benefits from the State fraudulently.


They said he hoped that more arrests.

Building needs protective covering

A century-old mill building at the corner of streets of Rodman and Hartwell in Fall River is going to get a cover because falling debris of the protector.

The part of the building Rodman Lane has been closed to foot traffic and in vehicles for a couple of weeks for materials, including brick and pieces of wood, drop the old mill of.

A police patrol is also stationed there to make sure anyone in danger.

Structural engineers said repairs that you need to wait until spring, but meanwhile, a special cloth wrapper should avoid pieces of roof damage.

Much of the building is vacant, but has a few tenants including a laboratory and a religious group.

RI man gets 6 months for posing as Attorney

A Rhode Island man was sentenced Friday to six months in federal prison for pretending to be an immigration attorney and seek to be a federal immigration agent.

Audeliz Villegas of Pawtucket was condemned at the Providence United States District Court after plead guilty in June.

Judge Mary Lisi also ordered Villegas to pay $8,700 in restitution to two people defrauded when doing is passing through a lawyer.

Prosecutors said Villegas, 45, told customers it was licensed to practice law in New York City and showed them counterfeit court documents. When their victims complained, he said it was an agent of immigration and threatened to arrest them.

Patrick proposes cutting 65 million dollars in local aid

BOSTON-

Governor Deval Patrick will propose a $ 65 million local aid for Massachusetts cities and towns in the budget that is about to reveal.

On Friday the Municipal Association of Massachusetts, the Governor said that you propose 834 million dollars in aid without restriction to the cities and towns.

However he will propose increased school aid for 140 million dollars to $ 4 million.

Patrick said that he would receive legislation forcing cities and towns to join or adopt a program similar to the State Insurance Commission. Bill would also require municipalities to eligible retirees in Medicare, which many have paid but not used.

He estimates it will save us $ 120 million per year, offsetting local aid cut.

FDA: Maine processor stops seafood shipments

The food and Drug Administration says a Maine company has agreed to stop the dispatch of products of lobster, shrimp and crabs ready to eat after listeria uncovered evidence.

The FDA said that officials in Portland seafood Co. they signed a decree of consent approved on Thursday by a federal judge that arose from an inspection of 2010 that are listeria contamination on the ground of a ready to eat product. Bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

The FDA says the company supplies its products to retailers in Massachusetts, California, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, Washington, New Jersey and Louisiana. It has been subjected to four recalls in
the last two years.

Consent decree asks the FDA to approve various plans to ensure product safety. A message left with the general manager of the company was not immediately returned Thursday night.

History of the street: A desire for a wish

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – men of Middletown that once had 10% chance of survival now is giving back.

Jimmy Deasley was seven years old when he was hit by e. coli.

Bacteria transformed into something more serious that eventually led to a stroke.

Jimmy went into a coma which lasted three months.

He had the opportunity to retrieve one of ten.

“People were praying for me all the time and I believe that God has some plans for me,” said Jimmy.

During his recovery organization wish to Come True gave Jimmy his desire for a trip to Walt Disney World.

Even as a young boy, laughing and playing in the theme park, Jimmy had an idea.

I “always knew that I wanted to return a wish”, said Jimmy. “I wanted to make a happy person I was.”

When he turned 30, Jimmy was able to take advantage of a trust fund.

He donated $5,000 to a wish Come True.

The Organization was able to use the donation to send JHA Anna Woodlew from Newport to Disney.

JAI Anna is battling Sickle Cell Anemia.

“It makes him forget about his illness and makes you happy for a few days,” said Jimmy.

Jimmy recently had the opportunity to meet with JHA Anna and her family.

“Just see them see videos, laughing and remember when were there.” I felt really good, “said Jimmy.”

It’s the first wish was granted in 1982, wish Come True has granted 1,300 want to help children & families forget their illness, if only for a moment.

Fire destroys complex elderly

There were some moments of fear in Central Falls on Friday morning when a fire was called at an older age high rise.

First calls for Forand Manor in 30 Washington Street came in just after 2 a.m.

Reports say that fire was confined to the annex and is extinguished quickly. Firefighters called for a second alarm be additional work.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Patrick: Mass. “no need” bankruptcy of the State

Massachusetts faces at least a $ 1 billion budget gap, but Governor Deval Patrick said that there is no need for the State to consider filing bankruptcy.

States currently prevented presentation for bankrutpcy as a corporation or the city. But some like Illinois and California faced with situations so critical that it discussed bankruptcy as a possible way to break Union contracts and reconstitute its financial situation.

Patrick said: “Don’t need.” And when asked if he did, he replied, “”.

It shall submit a fiscal 2012 budget containing heavy cuts in much needed by a loss of federal stimulus money next week.

Hassenfeld does not rule out Senate run in 2012

The former CEO of Hasbro Inc. says it is not ruled out a career in Rhode Island United States Senate in 2012, but not sure if that what you can do the greatest good.

Alan Hassenfeld, said Thursday that he has been talking with close to him, and he wants to consider how can better help the State.

A Senate run face the former head of the manufacturer of toys based on Pawtucket against the first term Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse.

Hassenfeld, 62, is independent and recently gave $10,000 to moderate party of Rhode Island and said he had voted in favour of the candidate for Governor, Ken Block.

Hassenfeld says he has no specific complaints about the White House, but the desires, the Congressional delegation spent more time in the State’s problems.
